Temple's Shizz Alston, Jr. named AAC Player of the Week and ECU's Jayden Gardner named AAC's Freshman of the Week

The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league's weekly men's basketball honors for the 15th week of the men's college basketball season.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Shizz Alston, Jr. - Temple - Senior - Guard - Philadelphia, PA

Alston, Jr., earns his third American Player of the Week honor this season as he averaged 26.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists in 2-0 week. He led the Owls to a victory over SMU and an overtime win at USF. Against the Mustangs the senior scored 13-straight Temple points, 15-of-18, and assisted on the lone basket not scored by him, in a stretch run to keep SMU at bay. Against the Bulls, he scored eight points in the OT period and came up with a clutch 3-pointer for a 68-65 advantage. His two free throws sealed the road win. Alston's seven rebounds at USF were a season high. His 37-game streak with one made three-pointer is tied for fourth nationally.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Jayden Gardner - ECU - Forward - Wake Forest, NC

Gardner picks up his fifth Freshman of the Week accolade which is tied for second-most in the history of The American. The forward averaged a double-double on 16.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in a pair of tightly-contested games for ECU. He posted his ninth double-double of the season with 19 points and 16 rebounds in an overtime game against Tulsa. It was his fifth 15-rebound game of the season. Gardner played 74 of a possible 85 minutes during the two games, including 42-of-45 against Tulsa. For the week, he shot 83.3-percent from the free throw line (10-of-12).

HONOR ROLL

Armoni Brooks - Houston - Junior - Guard

Averaged 18.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week. Shot over 54-percent from the field and from 3-point range with 10 triples. Tied a career-high with 24 points at Tulane.

Jarron Cumberland - Cincinnati - Junior - Guard

Scored a game-high 27 points in a win over Wichita State; the Bearcats lone game last week. Tied a career-high with six 3-pointers and added a game-high five assists. Leads The American with 13 20-point games.

Jeriah Horne - Tulsa - Redshirt-Sophomore - Forward

Averaged 16.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals in a 2-0 week. Had the first double-double of his career with 20 points and a career-high 12 rebounds in the win at Tulane. Added 12 points and five boards in an overtime win at ECU.

Jeremiah Martin - Memphis - Senior - Guard

Averaged 28.0 points, 4.5 rebound and 4.0 assists in a 1-1 week. Netted his fourth career 30-point game and fifth and sixth 20-point games this season. Became one of three Memphis Tigers with 1,300 points and 200 steals; moved past his head coach, Penny Hardaway, on the all-time Memphis scoring list.

B.J. Taylor - UCF - Redshirt-Senior - Guard

Averaged 19.0 points, 6.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week with a win at SMU and against Memphis. Had 12 assists to just three turnovers and knocked down 18-of-21 free throws last week. Scored 25 points vs. the Tigers.
