Houston Cougars 9th in Coaches' Poll; 9th in AP Poll; 7th in NCAA's NET Rankings

The Houston Cougars (23-1) moved up 3 spots in the USA Today Coaches Top 25 and also up 3 spots in the Associated Press Top 25 national polls. Both polls were announced Monday. In addition to those polls, Houston remains ranked 7th in the NCAA's latest NET rankings.

Houston received 517 points to rank No. 9 in the Week 14 USA TODAY Coaches' Poll (439 points and 12th in the Week 13 poll). Houston received 1022 points to rank 9th in the Week 15 Associated Press Top 25 Poll (up from 12 with 838 points in the Week 14 poll).

This was the first time that the Coogs were ranked in the Top 10 of any national poll since the 1983-84 team finished the regular season at No. 5.

As of the games played through February 10th, Houston is ranked 7th in the NCAA's NET Rankings. The NET rankings replaced RPI as the primary sorting tool for evaluating teams.

The system relies on game results, strength of schedule, game location, scoring margin, net offensive and defensive efficiency and qualities of wins and losses.

It was approved in July after consultation with the Division I Men's Basketball committee, National Association of Basketball Coaches, top basketball analytics and Google Cloud Professional Services.

The Coogs' next game is Thursday, February 14, at UConn, at 6 p.m., on CBS Sports Network.
