The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league's weekly men's basketball honors for the 14th week of the men's college basketball season.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Corey, Davis, Jr. - Houston - Senior - Guard - Lafayette, LA
Davis led then-No. 12/12 Houston to victories over the two top teams from The American Coaches Preseason poll with victories at UCF and against then-No. 25/23 Cincinnati. The senior guard had a career-high 26 points at UCF on 8-of-13 shooting with three rebounds and five assists. He followed up the performance with a team-high 16 points with six rebounds, an assist and two steals in a nationally-ranked battle against the Bearcats as the Cougars claimed sole possession of first place in The American standings. Houston has now won 32-straight home games and boasts the best record in the nation at 23-1.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Cedrick Alley, Jr. - Houston - Freshman - Houston, TX
The redshirt freshman was a pivotal piece of a 2-0 week for Houston that included a tough road win and a home victory over a nationally-ranked foe. Alley, Jr., averaged 7.5 points and 3.0 rebounds while shooting 45.5-percent from the field and 45.5-percent from deep in wins over preseason favorite UCF and then-No. 25/23 Cincinnati. Alley drained three 3-pointers on the way to nine points and grabbed four rebounds with a steal in the win at UCF last Thursday. He posted six points, on two treys, and grabbed two rebounds with a blocked shot in the win over the Bearcats on Sunday to help Houston to a No. 9/9 ranking this week.
HONOR ROLL
David Collins - USF - Sophomore - Guard
Averaged 22.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals in a 2-0 week. Tied a season-high with 23 points and the hit the game-winning 3-pointer with six seconds left in a road win at SMU.
Jarron Cumberland - Cincinnati - Junior - Guard
Averaged 22.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals in a 1-1 week for the Bearcats. Scored nine of UC's last 11 points in road win at Memphis. Had a game-high 27 points at No. 12/12 Houston.
Aubrey Dawkins - UCF - RS-Junior - Guard / Forward
Averaged 19.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week for UCF. Shot 53-percent from long range with seven 3-pointers. Scored a season-high 26 points in a road win at SMU.
Jeremiah Martin - Memphis - Senior - Guard
Averaged 19.0 points and 5.5 assists in a 1-1 week with a win over UConn and a five-point loss to No. 25/23 Cincinnati. Hit a career-high eight treys vs. Cincinnati, the highest single-game total in The American this season.
Markis McDuffie - Wichita State - Senior - Forward
Averaged 19.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in a second-straight 2-0 week. Became the 16th player in school history to reach 100 career steals. Scored 25 points with four 3-pointers vs. Tulane; his tenth 20-point performance of the season.
