Houston Cougars 13th in Coaches' Poll; 13th in AP Poll; 7th in NCAA's NET Rankings

The Houston Cougars (20-1) moved up 4 spots in the USA Today Coaches Top 25 as well as the Associated Press Top 25 national polls. Both polls were announced Monday. In addition to those polls, Houston is ranked 7th in the NCAA's latest NET rankings.

Houston received 424 points to rank No. 13 in the Week 12 USA TODAY Coaches' Poll (314 points and 17th in the Week 11 poll). Houston received 795 points to rank 13th in the Week 13 Associated Press Top 25 Poll (up from 17 with 544 points in the Week 12 poll).

The number 13 ranking is the first time Houston has been ranked in the top 15 nationally since the 1983-'84 season.

As of the games played through January 27th, Houston is ranked 7th in the NCAA's NET Rankings. The NET rankings replaced RPI as the primary sorting tool for evaluating teams.

The system relies on game results, strength of schedule, game location, scoring margin, net offensive and defensive efficiency and qualities of wins and losses.

It was approved in July after consultation with the Division I Men's Basketball committee, National Association of Basketball Coaches, top basketball analytics and Google Cloud Professional Services.

The Coogs' next game is Thursday, January 31, vs Temple, at 6 p.m., on ESPN2.
