Houston Cougars 17th in Coaches' Poll; 17th in AP Poll; 7th in NCAA's NET Rankings

The Houston Cougars (18-1) stay at 17 in the USA Today Coaches Top 25 national poll; however, the Coogs move up 4 spots in the Associated Press Top 25 national poll. Both polls were announced Monday. In addition to those polls, Houston is ranked 7th in the NCAA's latest NET rankings.

Houston received 314 points to remain at No. 17 in the Week 11 USA TODAY Coaches' Poll (288 points and 17th in the Week 10 poll). Houston received 544 points to rank No. 17 in the Week 12 Associated Press Top 25 Poll (up from 21 with 387 points in the Week 11 poll).

As of the games played through January 20th, Houston is ranked 7th in the NCAA's NET Rankings. The NET rankings replaced RPI as the primary sorting tool for evaluating teams.

The system relies on game results, strength of schedule, game location, scoring margin, net offensive and defensive efficiency and qualities of wins and losses.

It was approved in July after consultation with the Division I Men's Basketball committee, National Association of Basketball Coaches, top basketball analytics and Google Cloud Professional Services.

The Coogs' next game is Wednesday, January 23, vs ECU, at 7 p.m., on ESPN3.
