POSTED: January 14, 2019 -- 11:57 a.m. CST
The Houston Cougars (16-1) moved down two spots in the USA Today Coaches Top 25 national poll and 4 spots in the Associated Press Top 25 national poll. Both polls were announced Monday. In addition to those polls, Houston is ranked 8th in the NCAA's new NET rankings.
Houston received 288 points to land at No. 17 in the Week 10 USA TODAY Coaches' Poll (down from 337 points and 15th in the Week 9 poll). Houston received 387 points to rank No. 21 in the Week 11 Associated Press Top 25 Poll (down from 17 with 565 points in the Week 10 poll).
As of the games played through January 13th, Houston is ranked 8th in the NCAA's NET Rankings. The NET rankings replaced RPI as the primary sorting tool for evaluating teams.
The system relies on game results, strength of schedule, game location, scoring margin, net offensive and defensive efficiency and qualities of wins and losses.
It was approved in July after consultation with the Division I Men's Basketball committee, National Association of Basketball Coaches, top basketball analytics and Google Cloud Professional Services.
The Coogs' next game is Wednesday, January 16, at SMU, at 8 p.m., on ESPNews.
