Houston Cougars 15th in Coaches' Poll; 17th AP Poll; 4th in NCAA's NET Rankings
POSTED: January 7, 2019 -- 4:49 p.m. CST
The Houston Cougars (15-0) moved up two spots in the USA Today / Coaches Top 25 national poll and also in the Associated Press Top 25 national poll. Both polls were announced Monday. In addition to those polls, Houston is ranked 4th in the NCAA's new NET rankings.
Houston received 337 points to land at No. 15 in the Week 9 USA TODAY Coaches' Poll (up from No. 17 in the Week 8 poll) and earned 565 points to rank No. 17 in the Week 10 Associated Press Top 25 Poll (up from 19 with 368 points in the Week 9 poll).
As of the games played through January 6th, Houston is ranked 4th in the NCAA's NET Rankings. The NET rankings replaced RPI as the primary sorting tool for evaluating teams.
The system relies on game results, strength of schedule, game location, scoring margin, net offensive and defensive efficiency and qualities of wins and losses.
It was approved in July after consultation with the Division I Men's Basketball committee, National Association of Basketball Coaches, top basketball analytics and Google Cloud Professional Services.
The Coogs' next game is Wednesday, January 9, at Temple, at 6 p.m., on ESPNews.
