Houston's Brooks; ECU's Gardner Earn AAC Top Weekly Honors

The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league's weekly men's basketball honors for the fourth week of the men's college basketball season.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Armoni Brooks - Houston - Jr. - G - Round Rock, TX
Brooks led the Cougars to a 2-0 week that included a win over No. 18/21 Oregon. He averaged a double-double for the week with 14.5 points and 10.5 rebounds as Houston is off to its fourth-ever 6-0 start and first since 1997-98. Brooks grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds against UTRGV and played all but one minute in the game. He led the Cougars with 22 points in the win over Oregon on 7-of-14 shooting from the field in the inaugural game inside the Fertitta Center. Brooks drained two free throws to give Houston a 65-61 lead with eight seconds remaining. It was his third 20-point game of the season and the seventh of his career.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Jayden Gardner - ECU - F - Wake Forest, NC
Gardner averaged 24.7 points, 11.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals in a 2-1 week. He had two double-doubles and set the ECU and American Athletic Conference freshman record for most free throws made in a game with 16 against Appalachian State. He also set The American record for most free throw attempts in a game with 19, which was also an ECU freshman record. Gardner became the first freshman in ECU and American Athletic Conference history to post multiple 30-point games in a season with 30 points at UNC-Wilmington. With his 30-point, 15-rebound performance at UNCW, he became just the second ECU player to a have 30 points and 10 rebounds in the same game twice in a season. Gardner entered the month of December ranked first among all Division I players in free throws made (68) and attempted (85).

Registered a triple-double (12 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists) in a 3-0 week for the Mustangs
