Houston Cougars announce signing of Marcus Sasser to a National Letter of Intent
November 16, 2018 -- 10:35 a.m. CST
The Houston Cougars men's basketball program announced guard Marcus Sasser has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Houston and play basketball for Men's Head Coach Kelvin Sampson and the Coogs.
"The thing I love about Marcus is, because he shoots it so well, he can play with the point guard or be the point guard," Kelvin Sampson commented. "He's probably the perfect definition of a combo guard. A lot like Corey (Coogs' senior guard Corey Davis Jr. But, his strength is shooting.
"The way our team is set up we have to have shooters; and, eventually, we're going to have really good three-point shooters at all four spots. I'm not really to the point where I want a three-point shooting five man, yet; but, I want my one, two, three, and four to be able to play behind the three-point line in space whether it's in transition or in halfcourt."
Sasser attends Red Oak High School in the Dallas / Fort Worth / Arlington, TX area. He also plays grassroots / AAU basketball for Urban DFW Elite.
Marcus' uncle is 1996 Southwest Conference Player of the Year Jason Sasser who attended Texas Tech.
"You know, Marcus Sasser, some kids bloodlines matter," said Coach Sampson. "Sometimes the bloodlines don't matter. But, I think about that Sasser name here in the state of Texas: Jason Sasser and Jeryl Sasser. Jeryl played in the NBA out of SMU; and, Jason was a great, great player at Texas Tech."
Sampson continued, "That's the thing I like about Marcus: tough, tough kid. Knows how to play. Creates shots for others well. He can play off the ball screen; can play off the bounce. Just a really good guard."
Marcus announced his verbal commitment to Coach Sampson and the Coogs September 25, 2018.
