Temple's Alston, Wichita State's McDuffie & ECU's Gardner Earn Top Weekly Honors

The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the first week of the men's college basketball season.
CO-PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Shizz Alston, Junior. – Temple – Senior – Guard – Philadelphia, PA
Alston scored a career-high 30 points in the Owls’ comeback win over Detroit Mercy and is now just 11 points shy of 1,000. The senior averaged 21.5 points in 2-0 week as Temple defeated Big 5 foe La Salle in its season-opener, 75-67. Alston netted eight 3-pointers on the week and shot 50-percent from long range. He also was a perfect 11-of-11 from the free throw line and averaged six assists per game.
Markis McDuffie – Wichita State – Senior – Forward – Paterson, NJ
McDuffie exploded for a career-high 32 points in win the Shockers win over Providence College in the opening game of the Veteran’s classic in Annapolis, MD. The senior went 12-of-19 from the field and 6-of-9 from long distance to lead Wichita past PC, a team receiving votes in both national top-25 polls. McDuffie averaged 20 points, 3.5 3-pointers and 2.0 steals last week.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Jayden Gardner – ECU – Forward – Wake Forest, NC
Gardner capped his first week as a collegiate player in strong fashion as he scored 30 points with 10 rebounds in an overtime win against Lamar, 84-78. He went 9-of-10 from the field and 12-of-14 from the field throw line in the come-from-behind win. Gardner started all three games in a 2-1 week for ECU and averaged 14.0 points, a team-high 7.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks.

Jalen Adams – UConn – Senior – Guard
Scored 20 points with three assists, two steals against UMKC; averaged 18.0 points in a 2-0 week
Armoni Brooks – Houston – Junior. – Guard
Tied a career-high with 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting with six 3-pointers in a 101-54 win over Alabama A&M
Kyvon Davenport – Memphis – Senior – Foward
Double-doubled with 30 points and 10 rebounds; new career-high in points in 76-61 win over Tennessee Tech
B.J. Taylor – UCF – Senior – Guard
Averaged 25.5 points and shot .519 (14-of-27) from the field in a 1-1 week
Kevin Zhang – Tulane – Freshman. – Guard / Forward
Scored 24 points with four 3-pointers and seven rebounds in his collegiate debut against No. 17 FSU
