The Houston Rockets and Reliant are hosting their second annual Back-to-School Bash at Sunnyside Community Center on Saturday, August 10, in partnership with the Houston Parks and Recreation Department. The family-friendly event, which is open to the public, will feature giveaways of school supplies and backpacks donated by Reliant while supplies last.
Rockets forward Jae'Sean Tate will be in attendance to assist with the giveaways along with Rockets entertainers and staff members. Students from kindergarten through eighth grade will have the opportunity to receive backpacks filled with school supplies and participate in basketball clinics led by the Houston Rockets.
Children's Memorial Hermann will be on-site providing free back-to-school health screenings and scoliosis testing on a first come, first served basis. The Houston Health Department is offering eye screenings on-site through its See to Succeed program while representatives from Franklin Beauty Institute will be on hand to provide free haircuts for boys and vouchers for girls to visit one of their locations for a styling.
Attendees will also be able to enjoy inflatables, face painting, balloon artists, a video gaming truck and Kroger Chef Jr. workshops as well as Aquafina hydration stations. Students will have the opportunity to tour and select a book to take home from the Curiosity Cruiser “super library on wheels” courtesy of the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation, Reliant and the City of Houston Public Library.
