Rockets Sign Nate Hinton to Two-Way Contract
Posted: October 23, 2023 -- 6:50 p.m. CT
Monday evening, the Houston Rockets announced they have signed guard/forward Nate Hinton to a two-way contract.
Two-way contracts allow NBA teams to carry three extra players in addition to the 15 on their regular season roster. These players generally go back-and-forth between the NBA and G League, but remain under team control and can't be poached by rival franchises.
Two-way players are eligible to be active for up to 50 of their team's 82 regular season games. If a team isn't carrying a full 15-man roster, its two-way players can only be active for a combined 90 games.
Players on two-way contracts will earn $559,782 in 2023/24, half of the rookie minimum.
Hinton (6'5", 210) first signed with the Rockets after playing for them at the 2023 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas and was with the team through the preseason schedule. Hinton averaged 11.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 2.7 steals while shooting 50.0% from the floor in Vegas.
Last season, Hinton played for the Canton Charge of the G League while averaging 12.0 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 2.3 apg, 1.5 spg and 1.9 3-pointers made on 38.3% shooting. The University of Houston product was a two-way player for Dallas in 2020-21 and signed a 10-day contract with Indiana during 2021-22.
In related moves, the Rockets waived guard Trevor Hudgins.
