Rockets Celebrate 25th Anniversary of Winning Second Title with Special Online Auction Item

Posted: June 14, 2020 -- 3:22 p.m. CT

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the Houston Rockets sweeping the Orlando Magic in the 1995 NBA Finals to win their second straight NBA Championship. As the sixth seed, the 1994-95 Rockets still hold the honor of being the lowest seeded team to have won the NBA title.

To commemorate the occasion, the Rockets Give Back Auction presented by AT&T SportsNet will feature a framed photo of an opening tipoff from the 1995 Finals between Hakeem Olajuwon and Shaquille O'Neal. The photo is signed by both Hall of Famers and will be available for bidding beginning at 7 p.m. CT on the Rockets official mobile app.

Monday, June 15th, the Rockets flagship radio station SportsTalk790 is dedicating its broadcast schedule to celebrate the anniversary of the Rockets winning their second title. Throughout the day, members of the 1994-'95 team will join the programming, including Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler, Mario Elie, and Vernon Maxwell. Rockets owner Tilman J. Fertitta is also scheduled to call into SportsTalk790.

Autographed jerseys from both Drexler and Maxwell are currently available for bidding in the auction, which has offered numerous unique items and experiences since its launch on May 13. All proceeds benefit the team's Clutch City Foundation in support of COVID-19 relief efforts.

Upcoming auction items include an autographed game-worn pair of P.J. Tucker's sneakers from the 2019 Playoffs, an autographed blazer by Hall of Famer Calvin Murphy, an autographed James Harden All-Star jersey, an opportunity for a child to appear in a video with Rockets mascot Clutch the Bear, and a 24-second shopping spree in the Rockets Team Shop at Toyota Center.

Some of the items already won by bidders included a copy of the Rockets 50th Anniversary book autographed by over 40 players, a golf and lunch outing with Drexler at Royal Oaks Country Club, and a getaway package at Golden Nugget Lake Charles featuring food and golf.

Fans also have the ability to make a $50 donation on the Rockets app to receive a personalized audio recording from SportsTalk790's Matt Thomas, who serves as the Rockets public address announcer at Toyota Center and the radio play-by-play broadcaster for road games. Examples include having Thomas record a phone's voice greeting and introducing family and friends in the manner of a starting lineup.
