Rockets agree to 2-year deal with forward James Ennis III

Posted: July 11, 2018 -- 5:24 pm.

The Houston Rockets have reached a 2-year deal with free agent forward James Ennis. Ennis, 6'7", 210, split time with the Memphis Grizzlies and the Detroit Pistons last season. The second year of the deal contains a player option.

Since forwards Trevor Ariza (Phoenix Suns) and Luc Mbah a Moute (LA Clippers) signed elsewhere, Ennis has an excellent opportunity to see significant (starter's) minutes at small forward with the Rockets in the 2018-'19 season.

Ennis, 28, is a solid (not elite) defender.

Before being traded to the Pistons in February, Ennis shot 35.7 percent on his three-point shots in 45 games with the Grizzlies. Ennis shot 30.4 percent from three in his 27 games with the Pistons.

Ennis' month-by-month three-point shooting percentages:

Last season, Ennis started 8 games with the Pistons and 14 with the Grizzlies.

In 64 games (28 starts) with the Grizzlies in the 2016-'17 season, Ennis shot 37.2 percent from three.

For his career, Ennis averages 35.9 percent from three. His best season from three is the 2015-'16 season when he shot 44.8% from three split among time with the Miami Heat, Memphis Grizzlies, and New Orleans Pelicans. Ennis played 22 games in the '15-'16 season.
