Forward Amirah Abdur-Rahim has joined the Houston Cougars Women's Basketball program, Head Coach Matthew Mitchell announced Friday.
"We are thrilled about Amirah joining our family," Mitchell said. "She comes from a great basketball family. She has veteran experience, has played at the highest level which is going to be valuable for us. She fits the athleticism, mobility and explosiveness that we need in post players. She has some untapped potential that we are excited to help unleash."
The 6'3 forward joins the Cougars after spending the 2024-25 season at Texas A&M, where she played in 26 games and averaged 4.9 points and 3.2 rebounds per game in 2024-25.
Before Texas A&M, Abdur-Rahim spent three seasons at SMU, where she averaged 9.6 points per game and posted 5.4 rebounds per game from 2021-24. She played two of those seasons alongside assistant coach Anthony Anderson.
During her first season with the Mustangs, she suffered a season-ending knee injury in her first appearance of the season. Following her injury, Abdur-Rahim averaged 5.8 minutes per game over nine games during the 2022-23 season.
In her final season at SMU, Abdur-Rahim entered the starting lineup and averaged 11.3 points on 53.1% shooting from the field, 6.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.7 blocks per game. She led the American Athletic Conference with 50 blocked shots and posted five double-doubles.
