Gigi Cooke Sidelined for 2023-24 Season

Gigi Cooke will not suit up in 2023-24 after suffering an injury in August, head coach Ronald Hughey announced on Thursday.

Cooke, 5'9" guard from Clinton, Maryland, transferred to Houston after she played one season at Maryland appearing in 25 games off the bench for Terrapins in 2022-23. She bolstered Maryland's roster in route to an Elite Eight appearance before losing to then undefeated South Carolina.

The former four-star recruit was the 52nd ranked prospect in 2022 on ESPN's Top 100 coming out of Bishop McNamara High School. In her senior year at McNamara, she averaged 15.0 points, four rebounds and three assists.

The Maryland native recorded a career-high of 10 points and two steals against DePaul. Cooke provided support off the bench in Maryland's tournament run with eight points across its four tournament games.

Houston's "gameday roster" is now a squad of 14 with seven guards and seven forwards with the loss of Cooke.
