Tamara was a National Junior College honorable mention All-American for the 2019-20 season when she averaged 16.2 points per game on 58.1% field goal shooting in 32 games (29 starts).
Tamara is averaging 13 points (50.7 fg% and 7.4 rebounds per game in the 2020-21 season.
I spoke with Tamara about her decision and recruitment to UH to play for Head Coach Ronald Hughey and the Coogs.
"I chose UH because I had a vibe when me and Coach Hughey first talked," Nard said. "Ever since day one, he's been real with me.
"He gave me that family vibe; and, I just felt safe committing myself to them and to the team.
"I also have heard a lot about the education programs and that a lot of students there are well prepared from the members at UH which I feel best fits me."
Tamara told me she has spoken with the entire UH coaching staff.
"When I first talked to Coach Hughey, it was on the phone," Nard acknowledged. "I talked to all of the coaches. It was like a group meeting. I didn't know I was going to be talking to all of them.
"They all had great energy on the phone; and, I had great energy with them."
"From that day to now," Nard continued. "I talk with Coach Hughey every day. I talk with everyone on the coaching staff about my game; about them wanting me to be there (Houston). I just felt like, in my heart, that fit.
"Like, 'That's the one. That's' where I want to be.' I feel safe with them. They just gave me that family vibe."
Nard describes her game as "like a power forward". But, she also plays at the center position at Butler.
"I'm very quick on the court," Nard continued. "I can move my feet quick. I have a quick first step. I got a little jumper around the perimeter.
"I'll just say I'm very quick on the court," Nard summed up.
The UH coaching staff has told Tamara she'll fit into Houston's style of play.
"Coach Hughey told me he spoke to my high school coach; and, said, 'Man, that's how we play!'
"How we played in high school was a quick, fast motion; and Coach Hughey said I'll fit right in with them: being able to dribble up the court; getting the ball up the court quick. He just told me I'll fit right in."
Nard will get to Houston this summer.
"Some time in the summer," she added. "I don't have the exact date, yet."
Tamara's final words to Houston Cougars fans and alums: "All I can say is 'Go Coogs!'; and, I'm ready for the challenge and a fantastic season."
