POSTED: April 6, 2021 -- 1:18 p.m. CT
Tuesday afternoon, the Houston Cougars women's basketball program and Head Coach Ronald Hughey announced the addition of graduate transfer Fatou Diagne.
"Fatou is a great young woman," Coach Hughey said. "She is going to be a great connecting piece for us when it comes to establishing ourselves as one of the top teams in the conference. She will also help our culture. She's a great person and all about building connections and getting everyone around her to do the right things. Her stats speak to who she is. She can impact the game on both ends of the floor and we're excited about the opportunity to have her. She is going to do great things for us and help us move the needle."
Diagne, 6'4" graduate transfer, will come to Houston from Purdue where she played for the Boilermakers the past three seasons. Diagne started in all 23 games for the Boilermakers during the 2020-21 season, averaging 8 rebounds and 8.5 points per contest.
Based on her numbers, Fatou is not a shot blocker. She had 11 blocked shots this past season.
However, Diagne did have 8 double-digit rebounding efforts in 2020-21 -- including a 14-point, 18 rebound double-double against Penn State. She posted a 10 point, 12 rebound in 25 minutes against top 10 Maryland and a 10 point, 10 rebound effort in 29 minutes versus Top 10 Indiana.
Diagne ranked seventh in rebounding and third in offensive rebounding in the Big Ten this past season.
At the conclusion of Purdue's 2020-21 campaign Diagne earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors.
Diagne will be the third newcomer for the Cougars 2021-22 season, joining Kendall Brown and Ash'a Thompson.
