The Houston Cougars women's basketball team will begin play at the 2021 American Athletic Conference Championships as the three-seed in the bracket that was announced on Thursday afternoon.

Houston's first game in the AAC Championship will take place on Tuesday, March 9, against No. 6 East Carolina. Tip-off is slated for 9 p.m. CT on ESPN+.

Houston's third-place finish in the league standings marks the highest finish the Cougars have posted since joining The American and the second time that the Cougars have earned a first-round bye.

Houston concluded the regular season with a 15-6 overall record, including a 12-5 mark in conference play. UH recorded its most conference wins since joining The American with four conference regular-season series sweeps. The Cougars match-up against the Pirates will be the second time the two teams meet this season after their second meeting of the season slated for February 17 was postponed due to the winter storm.
