Jazmaine Lewis Named The American Player of the Week

Houston Cougars Women's Basketball sophomore forward, Jazmaine Lewis, was tabbed as The American Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. Freshman guard Laila Blair was rewarded for her efforts with a selection to the Honor Roll.

Lewis helped the Cougars earn their second straight come-from-behind victory after going 5-of-7 from the field, with 12 points and nine rebounds. The sophomore forward was one rebound shy of her second career double-double.

Blair had a stellar night for UH, matching her career-high in points with 16 in addition to a career-best seven rebounds and four assists.

The award marks the first Player of the Week accolade for UH this season and the first of Lewis' career.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jazmaine Lewis * Sophomore * Forward * Houston

Lewis posted an efficient outing for Houston on the road during a 64-56 victory at Tulsa on February 3, scoring 12 points on 71.4 percent shooting (5-of-7) in 27 minutes of action. Lewis added nine rebounds (three offensive), two blocked shots and a steal to her stat line. She scored six of her points during a two-minute stretch at the end of the third quarter to help Houston take the lead from the Golden Hurricane before chipping in three rebounds in the fourth quarter to cement the win.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Jasha Clinton * Guard * Temple

Clinton averaged 17.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game in a 2-0 Temple week, which included road victories at Cincinnati on February 3 and at Wichita State on February 6. Clinton opened the week with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting (.538) with eight boards and five assists in the victory at Cincinnati before adding 16 points, five assists and a steal in the win against Wichita State.

Davis averaged 17.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week for Temple; logged 17 points, eight boards and two steals at Cincinnati and scored 17 points with seven rebounds at Wichita State

Jerkaila Jordan * Freshman * Guard * Tulane

Jordan averaged 16.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game for 2-0 Tulane against Wichita State and Cincinnati; scored 18 points in the win at Wichita State and added 14 points, two assists and six steals at home against Cincinnati

Laila Blair * Freshman * Guard * Houston

Blair scored 16 points to lead Houston in road win at Tulsa; chipped in seven rebounds and four assists in the victory

Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu * Senior * Forward * Memphis

Fankam Mendjiadeu totaled 20 points and 14 rebounds (six offensive) at home for Memphis against East Carolina; recorded conference-high seventh double-double of the season

Seraphine Bastin * Junior * Guard * Wichita State

Bastin averaged a double-double with 13.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game last week for Wichita State; logged 14 points, 13 rebounds and five assists against Tulane and scored 12 points with seven boards and three assists against Temple
