American Athletic Conference Unveils Conference Scheduling Format
POSTED: October 7, 2020 -- 11:11 a.m. CT
The American Athletic Conference announced an updated scheduling format for conference play during the 2020-21 women's basketball season Wednesday morning.
In conjunction with conference member institution athletic directors, senior women's administrators and the COVID-19 Medical Advisory Group, the plan was approved unanimously.
Teams in The American will play a 20-game, double round-robin conference schedule. In previous years, the conference schedule included 16 games.
Last month, the NCAA Division I Council announced, women's basketball, teams can schedule 23 regular-season games and participate in one multiple-team event that includes up to four games or schedule 25 regular-season games if a team does not compete in a multiple-team event.
Conference play is set to begin in December and will be carried out in four windows (December 14-17, December 18-20, December 21-23 and December 28-31).
For the first time in league history The American Men's & Women's Basketball Championships will be contested in the same city and venue. The conference championships are set to be contested at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas from March 8-11.
The full conference schedule for the 2020-21 season, along with television selections and game times will be announced at a later date.
