LaMeisha Ligons Promoted to Coogs' Director of Basketball Operations

POSTED: June 3, 2019 -- 1:45 p.m. CT

Monday afternoon, Ronald Hughey, Houston Cougars Women's Basketball Head Coach, announced the promotion of LaMeisha Ligons to Director of Basketball Operations.

"LaMeisha epitomizes what it means to be a loyal Cougar," says Hughey. "She started out with us as an unpaid manager and worked her way up to Associate Director of Basketball Operations, where she handled various duties both within and outside of her job description. To now move into the Director of Basketball Operations position epitomizes who she is. She's a great person, God-fearing, task-oriented and a perfectionist. She is a great example for our student-athletes. They can see from her that if you put the hard work in, you can get to where you want to be in life."

For the past two seasons Ligons has served as the Associate Director of Basketball Operations where she handled various duties such as recruiting travel, budgeting and alumni relations. Ligons has been a member of the Houston Athletics Department since 2014 when she worked as a Ticket Office Representative before moving into her role as a student manager for the 2015-16 basketball season. Ligons is a University of Houston graduate, earning her Bachelor's of Science in Kinesiology in 2016 and Masters of Arts in Sport and Fitness Administration in 2018. She is currently working towards her Masters of Arts in Sports Ministry and is set to obtain her degree from Sterling College in May of 2020.

"I am extremely blessed and excited to be promoted to Director of Basketball Operations," says Ligons. "Women's basketball and administration are two of my passions, and my greatest joy comes from serving others. Having the opportunity to serve the student-athletes and staff in this program at my alma mater makes this moment that much more special. I am looking forward to continuing my efforts of making a difference in the lives of those God has connected me to and aiding in the growth of this program in any way that I can."
