Houston Mourns the Loss of Tye Jackson

POSTED: October 19, 2019 -- 1:45 p.m. CT

The University of Houston Women's Basketball program mourns the loss of former student-athlete Tye Jackson.

A Houston native and standout for the Cougars, Jackson played for Houston from 2005-08. In three seasons, Jackson scored 1,197 points and became the 14th player in program history to surpass the 1,000-point mark.

Ranking among the top-10 in seven different categories, including scoring average, made three-point field goals, made free throws and assists, Jackson left Houston as one of the most decorated players in program history.

Jackson holds the program record in single-game points after scoring a career-high 43 points against Marshall in 2007 and is one of two players to surpass the 40-point mark in a single game. A graduate of Westfield High School, Tye was a three-time All-Conference USA selection, two-time Naismith Trophy Watch List selection and Senior CLASS Award candidate.

Jackson is survived by her mother Tonice Henry and her sister Trina Taylor.

"Tye was not only one of the most decorated women basketball players to come through UH, she was also one of the most kind-hearted individuals you would ever meet," says Senior Associate AD/SWA DeJuena Chizer. "She never met a stranger. Our thoughts and prayers are with Tonice, Trina and her family. Tye will always hold a special place in our hearts."

Funeral services for Jackson will take place on October 26 at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. Viewing will take place from 10-11 a.m. and be immediately followed by the funeral. Attendees are asked to wear red and black, as those were her favorite colors.
