FORT WORTH, TX -- (Dickies Arena)

The Houston Cougars defeated the Cincinnati Bearcats 69-56 in the first quarterfinal game of the 2022 American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Championship.

Fabian White Jr scored 11 of his game-high 18 points in the second half as Houston erased 32-27 deficit. Houston shot 64.0 fg% (16 for 25) in the second half and outscored Cincinnati 42-24 in the game's second 20 minutes.

FORT WORTH, TX (Dickies Arena) -- The Houston Cougars defeated the Cincinnati Bearcats 69-56 in the first quarterfinal game of the 2022 American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Championship.

Houston trailed Cincinnati 39-30 two minutes into the second half. J'Wan Roberts scored a driving layup and Fabian White followed with a jump hook. Josh Carlton's back-to-back layups stretched Houston's run to 12-0 to give the Coogs a 42-39 lead with 12:51 remaining in the ball game.

Cincinnati's Mika Adams-Woods ended Cincinnati's scoring drought with 2 made free throws. Houston's Taze Moore made a pullup jumper and White followed with a jump hook to stretch Houston's lead to 46-41 with 11:01 on the clock.

Houston led 54-49 with 7:40 left in the ball game when Jamal Shead knocked down a jumper to began an 8-0 Houston run. Josh Carlton made a 15-foot face-up jump shot to cap the run for a 62-49 Houston lead with 3:56 left in the contest.

Cincinnati did not get closer than 11 points the final three plus minutes of the game.

Jamal Shead finished the game with 15 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds. Kyler Edwards scored 12 points.

Houston outscored Cincinnati 28-14 in the paint and finished the game with a 38-29 edge on the boards.

Houston (1-seed) will face Tulane (5-seed) Saturday, March 12, at 2 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
