FORT WORTH, TX (Dickies Arena) -- The 2-seed Houston Cougars defeated the 5-seed Cincinnati Bearcats 91-54 Sunday afternoon to win the 2021 American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Championship.

Houston's Quentin Grimes scored a game-high 21 points -- including 18 in the second half -- as Houston's offense turned a 41-27 halftime lead into a 37 point victory.

"We threw every defense we had: 2-3; 1-3-1; man; we ran and jumped in different parts of the court," John Brannen, Cincinnati Head Coach said after the game. "We unloaded everything that we had. It just wasn't enough tonight."

"They're elite defensively; and, then, when they're making shots it makes it extremely difficult to compete."

Houston made 37 of 66 field goal attempts (56.1 fg%) in the game -- 11 for 23 (47.8%) from three.

Marcus Sasser scored 16 points on 6 for 11 field goal shooting. DeJon Jarreau added 10 points and 7 rebounds.

Justin Gorham scored 7 of his 9 points early in the first half.

Houston led 41-27 at halftime.
