Jamal Shead Named to The Sporting News All-America First Team

Houston Cougars senior point guard Jamal Shead added to 2023-24 trophy case when he was named to The Sporting News All-America First Team on Tuesday morning.

Shead became the 27th student-athlete to earn All-America honors in program history. He also became the third Cougar in the last four years to receive the recognition, joining guards Marcus Sasser (2022-23) and Quentin Grimes (2020-21).

These are only the latest honors for Shead this week. He was named to the Field of 68 All-America First Team on Monday and received Big 12 Player of the Year and Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year honors, becoming the first player in league history to collect both awards in the same season.

Shead owns a 116-16 record in more than three seasons during his Houston career and needs only six more victories in 2023-24 to become the winningest player in school history.
