Houston junior guard Jamal Shead Named AAC Player of the Week

After leading the #1 Houston Cougars Men's Basketball team to a pair of wins with the game-winning shot at Memphis, Houston junior point guard Jamal Shead was honored as the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.

In a Senior Night home win over Wichita State in the Fertitta Center and at Memphis on Sunday afternoon, Shead led the Cougars with 20.5 points and 3.0 steals per game and tied for the team lead with 4.0 assists per contest.

Shead scored a career-high 25 points on 10 for 17 shooting in Thursday's home win over Wichita State with 18 of his total coming in the second half.

With his impressive totals, Shead also tied his career highs with 10 field goals and four 3-point field goals against the Shockers.

In Sunday's thrilling come-from-behind win at Memphis, Shead drained a buzzer-beating 18-footer as time expired to life the Cougars to a 67-65 win over the Tigers in front of 18,437 fans.

Playing all but 100 seconds, he tied for the team lead with 16 points and led all players with seven assists and only one turnover while swiping a game-high-tying three steals.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jamal Shead * Junior * Guard * Houston

Shead averaged 20.5 points, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals in a pair of victories for No. 1 Houston. The junior scored a career-high 25 points against Wichita State on Thursday night before sinking the buzzer-beating game-winning shot at Memphis on Sunday.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Taylor Hendricks * Forward * UCF

Hendricks averaged 20.5 points and 8.5 rebounds while shooting 60.9 percent from the field (14-23) in two games for the Knights. Hendricks won The American's Freshman of the Week honor a record nine times this season.

HONOR ROLL

David DeJulius * Graduate * Guard * Cincinnati

DeJulius scored 30 points and provided six assists in a win over SMU on Sunday.

Kendric Davis * Senior * Guard * Memphis

Davis averaged 24.5 points in two games for the Tigers and dropped 23 points and 10 assists at SMU on Thursday night.

Damian Dunn * Redshirt-Sophomore * Guard * Temple

Dunn averaged 16.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in two games for the Owls.

Jalen Cook * Sophomore * Guard * Tulane

In three games in five days, Cook averaged 18.3 points and 5.3 assists per game.

Craig Porter Jr * Senior * Guard * Wichita State

Porter averaged 20.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in two Shocker contests last week.
