Houston Cougars Men's Basketball Head Coach Kelvin Sampson announced the signing of Mercy Miller to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) Thursday.
Miller, 6'4", 185, will compete as a freshman with the Cougars in 2024-25 and have four years of eligibility.
Miller was listed as a 4-star recruit by ESPN and 247Sports while playing for Coach Matt Sargeant for his final two seasons at Notre Dame HS. He committed to the Cougars in August 2021 after being recruited by Minnesota and Missouri.
"I saw Mercy after his 10th grade season at a tournament in Houston. I was impressed with the way he made shots but also his unselfishness. Mercy is serious about his game. He wants to be the best player he can be. He comes from a family of high achievers," Sampson said. "Mercy understands what our culture is, and he wants to be a part of it. Those kids usually succeed here. We are really excited about bringing Mercy here."
This summer, Miller was one of 20 high school players to be invited to the Formula Zero Elite Camp.
A native of Sherman Oaks, CA, Miller competed for his first two seasons at Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis, MN, where he led the team to the state championship as a freshman in 2020-21.
Moving to Notre Dame High School as a junior in 2022-23, he led the team to its first CIF state championship with a win over Granada, scoring 17 points with nine rebounds, five assists and five steals in the title game.
