Jacob McFarland, top 100 big man in the country, commits to Coogs

This evening, on the 247Sports YouTube channel, Jacob McFarland, announced he's decided to attend the University of Houston and play basketball for Head Coach Kelvin Sampson and the Coogs' men's basketball program.

McFarland,6'10", 205, senior at Rancho Verde HS (West Coast Elite travel team) in Moreno Valley, CA.

Jacob narrowed his college choices to 3 before choosing Houston over Georgia and Wyoming.

247Sports ranks Jacob 99th nationally; 14th at his position in the nation; and 16th in the state of California.

ESPN ranks Jacob 93rd in the country.

Jacob is a long, lean, lefty who will benefit from spending time with Houston's Alan Bishop (Director of Men's Basketball Sports Performance).

247Sports' Adam Finkelstein says McFarland "has untapped upside". McFarland did not have one Division I scholarship offer at the end of his junior year.

247Sports' Brandon Jenkins, "I love what he could become in Houston's program."

McFarland says he chose Houston because of the family vibe.

"I took an official visit. When I stepped on campus, I felt that family atmosphere.

"I really fit with the players and the other two players that are in my class (JoJo Tugler, 6'8" Cy Falls and Kordelius Jefferson, 6'4", Arlington Martin HS). Then, Coach Sampson and his vision for me.

"He never promised me minutes. He wants me to work for my minutes. Defense, he wants to improve on it; and, then, offense, he wants to help build it and expand on it. Not just rim running but face ups; shoot the ball; more of that."
