Darius Bowser has joined the Houston Cougars Men's Basketball program after recently signing a scholarship agreement, Head Coach Kelvin Sampson announced Thursday.

A transfer from Charleston Southern, Bowser will compete immediately as a graduate student in 2022-23 with one year of eligibility remaining.

"Darius gives us depth in the frontcourt," Coach Sampson said. "Having that extra body and depth allows us to move guys around and be more versatile. Darius is going to help us."

Bowser – whose name is pronounced Dare-E-Us Bow (as in now)-Zur – competed in nearly 110 games with more than 50 starts as a member of the Buccaneers. As a senior in 2021-22, he scored a career-high 14 points at USC Upstate and swatted three shots against Hampton and High point.

Bowser grabbed a personal-best nine boards against Longwood as a junior in 2020-21.

Bowser will be one of four newcomers to compete with the Cougars this season, joining freshman forward Jarace Walker and freshman guard Terrance Arceneaux. Guard Emanuel Sharp will play as a redshirt freshman in 2022-23, sitting out a year ago after joining the team as a freshman at the semester break.
