Houston Cougars Men's Hoops Earns Perfect Score in Latest APR Report
POSTED: June 15, 2022 -- 1:09 p.m. CT
The Houston Cougars Men's Basketball program earned a perfect 1,000 score for the 2020-21 academic year in the latest Academic Progress Rate Report, tying the program single-season record with its total.
Under the leadership of Head Coach Kelvin Sampson, the Cougars recorded a season APR score of 950 or higher for the third straight season with a 1,000 score for the second time in the last three years (2018-19).
It's the third single-season perfect score in school history (2015-16), all since Coach Kelvin Sampson took over the reins of the program for the 2014-15 season.
The Cougars also increased their multiyear APR score to 975, topping the previous program record of 970 set during the 2018-19 season.
These are only the most recent academic achievements for the Cougars. In 2020-21, ten student-athletes (Caleb Broodo, Ryan Elvin, Brison Gresham, DeJon Jarreau, Kiyron Powell, J'Wan Roberts, Marcus Sasser, Jamal Shead, Cameron Tyson and Fabian White Jr.) were named to the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, setting a school single-season record.
That same year, forwards White (Health), Gresham (Liberal Studies), Jarreau (Liberal Studies) and Justin Gorham (Sociology) earned their bachelor's degrees. They became the 20th, 21st and 22nd Cougars to graduate during the last eight years.

Men's Basketball was one of six Houston sport programs to record perfect APR scores in 2020-21, joining Men's Cross Country, Men's Golf, Women's Cross Country, Women's Golf and Volleyball. It was the second straight season in which six Houston sport programs posted that total and tied the school single-season record, set in 2019-20.
The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term and provides a clear picture of the academic performances for each team in every sport.
