Junior forward J'Wan Roberts earns place on league's Honor Roll

After helping lead the Cougars to a pair of wins during the first week of the season, Houston Cougars forwards Jarace Walker and J'Wan Roberts earned American Athletic Conference weekly awards Monday.

Making his collegiate debut, Walker was chosen as the league's Rookie of the Week, while Roberts was named to the Honor Roll.

The duo led the Cougars to a season-opening 83-36 win over Northern Colorado on Nov. 7 inside the Fertitta Center and followed that with an 81-55 win over Saint Joseph's at the Veterans Classic inside Alumni Hall on the campus of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MO., on Friday.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

David DeJulius * Grad Student * Guard, Cincinnati

DeJulius led the Bearcats to three victories to start the season, averaging 21.3 points and 3.7 assists. The graduate student shot 56.1 percent from the field (23-41) and was 7-of-9 from 3-point range (77.8 percent). After dropping 24 points in the season opener, he had 18 points along with six assists against Cleveland State. DeJulius wrapped up the week with 22 points against Eastern Kentucky.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Jarace Walker * Forward * Houston

Walker opened his collegiate career by averaging a double-double with 15.5 points and 10.0 rebounds in two wins for the Cougars. The forward recorded eight points and 12 rebounds against Northern Colorado on Monday before adding 23 points and eight rebounds against Saint Joseph's in the Veteran's Classic in Annapolis, MD, on Friday.

HONOR ROLL

Taylor Hendricks * Freshman * Guard * UCF

Hendricks opened his freshman campaign by averaging 19.0 points and 8.5 rebounds as the Knights went 1-1 on the week.

Javon Small * Sophomore * Guard * East Carolina

Small helped lead the Pirates to two victories to start the season by averaging 19.5 points and 6.0 assists.

J'Wan Roberts * Redshirt-Junior * Forward * Houston

Roberts nearly averaged a double-double with 15.5 points and 9.0 rebounds while shooting 82.4 percent from the field (14-17).

Damian Dunn * Redshirt-Sophomore * Guard * Temple

Dunn led the conference last week in scoring, averaging 25.5 points as the Owls went 1-1. He went 18-18 from the line against Wagner, a new conference record for free throws made in a game.

Kevin Cross * Junior * Forward * Tulane

Cross averaged 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists as the Green Wave opened the season with two wins.
