At 5 p.m. this evening, Houston Cougar Nation received good news and had a collective exhale when Terrance Arceneaux announced he would attend the University of Houston and play basketball for Head Coach Kelvin Sampson and the Coogs.

Arceneaux, 6'7", 190, wing, is a top 30 / top 40 national recruit. He chose Houston over Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and UNLV. Arceneaux helped lead Beaumont United High School to a Texas 5A State Championship last season in a thrilling 71-70 win over Dallas Kimball.

Arceneaux is ranked the top player in Greater Houston per RCSSports.com's and OTRExposure.com's rankings.

Arceneaux is the highest ranked national recruit to commit to the Coogs since 2012.

"I think he's a multidimensional player who provides skill, length and athleticism," said Marcus Sloan of OTR Exposure. "I think defensively he's a difference maker because he can defend multiple positions.

"He's played in big time games and had big time moments."

Sloan appeared on the "Folks Talkin's Sports" livestream show Friday evening to discuss Arceneaux to UH.

Herb Baker of 1st Option Sports said of Arceneaux: "I think Arceneaux is a special talent. He's long, athletic, skilled and, most importantly, focused.

"I believe he will blend well with teammates and he's perfect for Coach Sampson's style of play. Let's enjoy him while we can because he won't be on campus for long, he's a three letter guy (NBA)."

Arceneaux joins Emanuel Sharp (6'4", 200) as verbal commits to the Coogs for the 2022 Class. Sharp committed to the Coogs on May 14.

The earliest Arceneaux and Sharp can each sign a National Letter of Intent to the University of Houston is during the early signing period November 10, 2021 through November 17, 2021.

The regular signing period to sign a National Letter of Intent is April 13, 2022 to May 18, 2022.
