Friday afternoon, Houston Cougars Head Coach Kelvin Sampson announced the Houston Cougars Men's Basketball program will face Virginia in a home-and-home series during the next two years.

To start the series, the Coogs will play host to Virginia inside the Fertitta Center on November 16. Game time and broadcasting network will be announced at a later date.

Houston will travel to Charlottesville, VA, to face the Cavaliers on December 17, 2022, during the 2022-23 season.

"We are excited to announce a two-game nonconference series with Houston," Virginia head coach Tony Bennett said. "Coach Kelvin Sampson has done a great job returning Houston Basketball to national prominence. We're looking forward to a pair of highly-competitive games."

The series features two of the nation's Top-Three winningest programs during the last four years. Houston has posted a 111-24 record since 2017-18 to rank second in the country, while the Cavaliers stand third with a 107-20 mark.

In 2020-21, the Cougars advanced to the NCAA Final Four for the sixth time in school history and finished at No. 3 in the final Coaches' poll with a 28-4 record. Virginia finished with an 18-7 mark and ranked among the nation's Top 25 in both final national polls.

The Coogs' complete non-conference schedule will be announced at a later date.
