UPDATED: November 10, 2021 -- 10:02 p.m. CT
Wednesday evening, Houston Cougars Men's Basketball Head Coach Kelvin Sampson announced Bishop McLaughlin Catholic School's Emanuel Sharp has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to join the Coogs.
Sharp, 6'4", 200, will compete as a freshman beginning in 2022-23 and have four years of eligibility remaining. He will join the Cougars at the semester break in December and sit out the Spring 2022 semester as a redshirt.
"I am really excited about Emanuel. Emanuel just has a knack for putting the biscuit in the basket. He can really score, but Emanuel is really good out of pick and rolls because he can pass. He has a lot of winner to him. He is going to be a terrific college player," Sampson said. "What he can do with the basketball in scoring, you cannot teach. We like to recruit as many good offensive players as we can and then teach them how to play in our culture and our system defensively."
Sharp was listed as a 4-star recruit by ESPN, 247Sports and Rivals and was the No. 60 player nationally in the ESPN 100. He ranked as the No. 11 shooting guard by ESPN, No. 18 by 247Sports and at No. 20 by Rivals
Sharp, who played for his father, Head Coach Derrick Sharp, at McLaughlin Catholic School, was recruited by Texas Tech, Arizona, Clemson, Florida, Louisville, Rutgers, Clemson, Penn State, SMU, Iona and South Florida.
