POSTED: January 11, 2021 -- 3:36 p.m. CT
For the second time this season, University of Houston sophomore guard Marcus Sasser was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday.
Sasser led the 11th ranked Cougars to a pair of home wins over American Athletic Conference rivals Wichita State and Tulane inside the Fertitta Center last week. Sasser averaged a team-high 20.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 4.5 3-pointers per game in the wins.
Sasser finished with 12 points and grabbed three rebounds with three assists and a steal in Wednesday's win over Wichita State.
He enjoyed a career-day in the Cougars' 71-50 win over Tulane on Saturday. Sasser set career bests and Fertitta Center records with 28 points and eight 3-pointers against the Green Wave.
He became only the fifth player in school history to drain 8 or more 3-pointers in a game and became just the seventh Cougars to enjoy multiple games with 7 or more treys in his career.
Sasser was named the league's first Player of the Week on November 30 after sinking a then-Fertitta Center record seven 3-pointers in the Cougars' win over Lamar in the season opener.
Sasser ranks second among the Cougars and fifth in the league with 16.3 points per game and tops the American with 3.4 3-pointers per game.
