University of Houston Athletics Sets APR Record with Five Perfect Scores

Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Softball, Men's Cross Country and Women's Cross Country achieve milestone

Tuesday afternoon, the University of Houston announced news that five University of Houston Athletics sport programs posted perfect scores of 1000 in 2018-19 in the latest Academic Progress Rate data, released by the NCAA on Tuesday afternoon.

Men's Basketball, Cross Country, Women's Basketball, Women's Cross Country and Softball each posted perfect scores during the 2018-19 academic year to lead the Cougars. It was the most APR perfect scores by programs in a single season in school history, besting the previous record of three set in 2015-16, 2014-15 and 2013-14.

Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Softball and Football set program records with its APR scores with Men's Basketball posting the biggest improvement from its APR score a year ago. Men's Cross Country achieved a score of 1000 for the fifth time in its history, while Women's Cross Country reached that milestone for the third time in the last four years.

Six of Houston's 17 sport programs (Men's Basketball, Men's Cross Country, Football, Women's Basketball, Women's Cross Country and Softball) improved or equaled their APR scores from 2017-18.

In all, 10 of Houston's 17 sport programs were at least 30 points above the NCAA's required minimum score of 930 with seven programs above 980 (Men's Basketball, Men's Cross Country, Football, Women's Basketball, Women's Cross Country, Softball and Swimming and Diving).

Softball recorded its sixth straight season with an APR of 990 or higher, the longest current streak by any Houston sport program.

Four programs (Men's Basketball, Men's Cross Country, Softball and Volleyball) scored higher than the NCAA average multiyear rate in their respective sports.

The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport.

The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.
