Houston Cougars Men's Basketball Team Finishes Ranked in Both National Polls
POSTED: March 18, 2020 -- 3:08 p.m. CT
For the third straight season, the Houston Cougars Men's Basketball program finished in both of the nation's Top-25 men's basketball polls to end the season.
This marks the first time Houston finished a season ranked in three consecutive years in school history, according to the best Houston records available. The Cougars advanced to three straight NCAA Final Fours from 1982 to 1984, but the final Associated Press poll of the 1981-82 season came out before the NCAA Tournament was played.
In the most recent polls, the Cougars earned 179 points to finish at No. 22 in the final AP Top 25 poll of the 2019-'20 season. The AP's final poll is released after the field for the NCAA Tournament is selected.
Houston received 110 points to finish at No. 23 in the final USA TODAY Coaches' poll of the season.

Before the cancellation of the NCAA Tournament due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) crisis, the Cougars posted a 23-8 overall record and captured their second straight American Athletic Conference regular-season title with a 13-5 record in league play.
Under Head Coach Kelvin Sampson's leadership, this is the first time in program history that the Cougars have recorded five consecutive 20-win seasons.
