Houston Cougars Men's Basketball at No. 18 in Week 1 USA Today Coaches' Preseason Poll

The Houston Cougars Men's Basketball team is ranked No. 18 in the USA Today Coaches' Preseason Poll. The Coogs received 203 points to tie with the Florida State Seminoles.

This is the second national preseason poll to rank Houston in the Top 20. Earlier this week, Houston was ranked 17th in the Associated Press' Week 1 Poll.

The USA TODAY Sports men's basketball coaches poll is conducted weekly throughout the regular season using a panel of head coaches at Division I schools. The panel is chosen in consultation with the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The members represent each of the 32 Division I conferences that receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Each coach submits a Top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th.

Houston has been ranked for a total of 30 weeks during the last three years and finished among the Top 25 leaders in each of the last three polls.

Houston returns four starters and seven lettermen from last season's squad. With a 23-8 overall record and 13-5 mark in American play, the Cougars finished ranked among the Top 25 in both final national polls for the third straight year.
