11 Cougars scored at least two points, three scored in double digits

HOUSTON, TX (Hofheinz Pavilion) -- The Houston Cougars did not play a great first half of basketball Sunday afternoon versus Prairie View A&M. However, an extremely strong second half performance enabled the Cougars to earn a 74-46 victory over the Lady Panthers in the second day of the annual David Jones Classic.

The 28-point win was the Coogs' largest margin of victory since January 6, 2011.

Senior Te'onna Campbell led a balanced attack with 11 points. Eleven Coogs scored at least two points in the ball game. Sophomores Bianca Winslow and Tyler Gilbert each scored 10 points off the bench.

"I believe the first half we were the attackers," Campbell said after the game. "My first two points were me attacking. I can always depend on YT (Yasmeen Thompson) and Destini (Texada) to have my back with rebounds. Everyone played their roleswith high intensity. And in the second half, we let the game come to us because we had players off the bench but I feel like they turned it up too at the end."

Tyler Gilbert added, "When I first came into the game in the first half I got a charge right off and I kind of let it get to me. I wanted to help everyone out and I didn't want to let my fouls get in the way. I just wanted to focus on rebounding."

The Coogs (3-4) led the Lady Panthers 31-25 at halftime -- despite PV shooting only 33.3% (8 for 24) from the floor. Houston turned the ball over 12 times in the opening 20 minutes.

The Coogs blitzed the Lady Panthers (0-5) to start the second half with a 12-0 run to lead 43-25 with 14:37 remaining in the game. The Coogs extended the lead to 24 points (51-27) with 9:57 remaining and the rout was on.

The Coogs host Pac-12 opponent Washington Wednesday, December 4, at 7 p.m.
