Elena Gumbs makes a verbal commitment to the Rice Owls

Elena Gumbs, 5'4" point guard, has verbally committed to head coach Greg Williams and the Rice Owls.

Gumbs is a Class of 2012 member; and, she's ranked #5 in San Antonio by She's Ballin; #8 in San Antonio by the River City Hoop Scoop and #38 in Texas by the Premier Basketball Report.

Gumbs plays her high school ball at Byron M. Steele in Cibolo, TX. She helped lead the Knights to the area round of the Class 5A playoffs in Region 4 this past season. Gumbs also plays AAU basketball for TeamXPress.

A scouting report summary of her game states Gumbs is an excellent on the ball defender; with good quickness; solid ball handling skills as well as very good court vision.

The early National Letter of Intent signing period begins November 9th and ends November 16th. The regular signing period starts April 11, 2012.
