Baylor Edges Aggies -- with Video
COLLEGE STATION, TX -- Baylor and Texas A&M battled and competed in a hard fought game Monday night in front of 7233 fans inside Reed Arena; and, highly touted freshman Brittney Griner proved the difference in the game as the Lady Bears edged the Aggies 65-63.
Griner scored what proved to be the game winning basket with 16 seconds left in the ball game.
After a missed jumper by Aggies senior Tanisha Smith, Griner missed the front end of a one-and-one free throw situation with 7 seconds remaining; the Aggies rebounded the missed foul shot; and, Sydney Carter quickly dribbled the ball up the court and attempted a runner in the lane which bounced off the glass and the rim and missed.
Fittingly, Griner snared the rebound -- her 21st of the ball game. Griner finished the game with 22 points; 22 rebounds; and 4 blocked shots.
Senior Morghan Medlock scored 14 points (6 for 6 from the field, 2 for 2 from the foul line) and grabbed nine rebounds. Junior point guard Kelli Griffin added eight points, nine assists, and three steals in 40 minutes.
Baylor improves to 20-7 overall and 7-6 in the Big 12 while the Aggies' record moves to 19-7 and 7-6.
