Aggies Top OU in Big Semi-finals
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK -- The Texas A&M Aggies defeated the Oklahoma Sooners for the second time this season with a convincing 74 to 62 win in the semi-finals of the 2009 Big 12 Women's Basketball Tournament.
The Aggies led the Sooners 29 to 21 at halftime. OU's Courtney Paris played only 12 minutes in the opening half after picking up her third foul. The Aggies led 18 to 12 at the time of the third foul; but, the Aggies' offense failed to capitalize on CP3's absence and only outscored the Sooners 11 to 9 in the final 9:10 of the half.
OU managed to pull with one point (31 to 30) on a jumper by CP3 at the 17:10 mark of the second half; but, Aggies' junior wing Tanisha Smith scored four straight points to stretch the lead to five and Oklahoma did not get any closer the rest of the half.
Sydney Colson, A&M's sophomore point guard, drained a three point basket to give the Aggies a 38 to 31 lead. Colson finished the game with 15 points (5 for 10 field goal shooting) and five assists.
Aggies' senior forward Danielle Gant led all scorers with 22 points. Gant shot 7 for 8 from the field and 8 for 9 from the foul line.
The Sooners poor free throw shooting (22 for 36) added to their woeful 32.2% field goal shooting (19 for 59).
The Aggies shot 57.1% (12 for 21) from the field and 86.4% (19 for 22) from the foul line in the second half.
