Summitt Going for 1000

OKLAHOMA CITY -- I'm in Oklahoma City waiting to witness (basketball) history in the making. Regardless of what any doubters and / or naysayers say, one thousand wins in anything is an impressive feat. Especially, winning 1,000 college basketball games.

Tennessee's Pat Summitt has a chance to become the first head coach in college basketball history to win 1,000 games tonight as her basketball team, the Tennessee Lady Volunteers, plays the #2-ranked Oklahoma Sooners inside the Ford Center in Oklahoma City, OK.

Tip is set for 6:30 p.m. The game is part of ESPN2's "Big Monday"; and, ESPN's "family of networks" has paid plenty of attention to Summitt's spectacular achievement for the last few days.

This year's Tennessee is squad is very young and inexperienced; and, despite being 16 and 4, the team has not lived up to Summitt's very high expectations.

Tonight's game versus the red-hot Sooners, 18 and 2 and winners of 14 straight games, is an extremely formidable challenge -- especially combined with Tennessee's injuries and subpar play of late.

However, those long odds simply provide Summitt another opportunity to show why she's an amazing coach.
