Owls' Williams in Win-Win Situation
The 2008 WNBA Finals will begin Wednesday, October 1, tomorrow evening in San Antonio as the Western Conference champs -- the San Antonio Silver Stars -- host the Eastern Conference champs -- the Detroit Shock.
The series is a best-of-5 and all five potential games will air on ESPN2.
The match-up has a win-win situation for Greg Williams, the current head coach of the Rice Owls women's basketball team.
During his coaching career, Williams was a coach for the Utah Starzz (now the Silver Stars) and the Shock. Williams also coached current SASS (and WNBA) star Becky Hammon at Colorado State University. Lastly, Williams coached Valeriya Berehzynska at Rice. Val signed two seven-day contracts with the Silver Stars this season.
Game 1 of the series tips off at 6:30 pm (CDT) tomorrow.
