Coop on TSU Job
HOUSTON, TX -- On Monday, June 30, Texas Southern University's Athletics Director Charles McClelland announced TSU failed to reach an agreement with Surina Dixon as head coach of the TSU's women's basketball program.
Current Prairie View A&M University head coach Cynthia Cooper may be a leading candidate to replace Dixon at Texas Southern.
The HRR spoke with Cooper earlier today to get her comments on the TSU job opening.
Here's what she said, "I'm interested," Coop commented. "However, given the time of the year, I'm not as interested in the Texas Southern job as I was a few months ago."
This weekend is the start of the summer recruiting (re: evaluation) period (10 days at the start of July with 10 more days at the end of July) for college coaches; and, Cooper has already planned and established the itinerary for herself and her Prairie View A&M assistant coaches to travel across the country to scout high school basketball talent.
However, Coop did add, "I'm not completely closing the door on Texas Southern. We'll have to see how things play out."
