AP Coach and Player of the Year Awards

The AP Player of the Year is: Candace Parker from Tennessee. This was pretty much expected.

The AP coach of the year is: Gene Aurimo, I mean Geno Auriemma. At least I think that's who the winner is. The guy giving out the award either does not know how to read, or was very nervous. Possibly both. Also, Geno was the only coach in the room and accepted the award.

After the awards were handed out, once again, the majority of the media members in attendance (less than 15) were huddled around Geno congratulating him, but very few went over to congratulate Candace. In my opinion, this is the reason why Geno thinks he is above the game and players.

Don't get me wrong, the coach of the year award is a big thing and the winner should be congratulated. But the entire thing is about the game and the players, not only about the coach. People need to remember that. Without the players, there is no game. To be respected, you must first respect the game. The game was here before us and the game will be here after we're gone.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T the game.
