Swoopes to Seattle
Sheryl Swoopes, women's basketball legend, has signed a free agent contract with the Seattle Storm.
I've known since January Swoopes was seriously contemplating not re-signing with the Houston Comets; but, I was unable to get direct comments from her about her free agent plans for the 2008 WNBA season.
Well, apparently, Swoopes has decided to leave the Comets and sign with the Storm.
Clearly, signing Swoopes is a huge move by Seattle; however, Swoopes missed most of the 2007 WNBA season with a bulging disc in her back and she has battled injuries the last few seasons. Swoopes said in a recent ESPN.com chat she is in great shape now; so, time will tell how healthy Swoopes is this season.

Once again a great talent in the twilight of a great career finds a way to get the headlines once again. Junior Seau retires from San Diego then signs with New England. Jordan retires, returns, retires and re-returns. Barkley retires, then tries a coattail comeback with Jordan. Now Swoopes. Who knew she might want a headline? But what really bothers me is the absolute silence from the Comets front office. They have made no moves, or even gotten their name in a rumor about making a move. Even the move to Reliant Arena for their Home games was a secret to all that don't read the HRR. Great front office strategy. Lose your starting point guard in the expansion draft, leave your box office drawer wide open and watch half your franchise swirl the bowl. Can we get a GM up in here somewhere? Please?

The Comets have been a little active in the free agent market. They re-signed Tamecka Dixon and signed Mwadi Mabika formerly of the Los Angeles Sparks. Neither signing is much of an attention grabber.

Hilton must be the most stupid owner in the league. And Karleen has to be the worst GM. They knew this and did not want to tell the public. Why would Tina come back for another season with the Sparks, she might as well leave to. Has anyone looked at the free agent list, who are we going to get to fill the void left by the heart and soul of this team and a role model in the GLBT community.

Wasn't there rumors last year that she was retiring? Also Tina is a free agent. Does she plan on coming back, retiring, and signing with someone else
