Aggies Reach Big 12 Final

With the chances to earn a number two seed in the NCAA Tournament improving by the day, the fourth-seeded and No. 11-ranked Texas A&M Aggies took another step toward that goal Thursday night with a 65 to 53 win over Iowa State in the semifinals of the 2008 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship in Kansas City, MO.

Aggies senior guard / forward Morenike Atunrase led all scorers with 19 points -- off the bench. Takia Starks added 15 points for the red-hot Aggies.

The Aggies have have won 12 of their last 13 games of the season and are riding a conference-best eight-game winning streak. A&M became the first No. 4 seed in league history to advance to the championship game and claimed only its fifth all-time win in the tourney. The Aggies limited Iowa State to just 6 for 26 (23.1%) from the three-point line.

The Aggies will face third-seeded Oklahoma State (25-6) in the Big 12 championship game on Saturday, March 15, at 6 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on Fox Sports Net. OSU and A&M have only met once in postseason play. The eighth-seeded Cowgirls defeated the ninth-seeded Aggies (92-76) in the first round of the 2002 Tournament in Kansas City.
