Tampa and CBA

Yesterday was a good day.

I attended the Houston Lady Cougars' practice; and, while I was on campus, I ran into head coach Joe Curl. Coach Curl was in his office catching up on old e-mails. (For those who don't know, a few months ago, Coach Curl suffered a heart attack and underwent double bypass surgery.) He's feeling much better. His doctors have cleared him to drive; so, he's slowly getting back into a routine.

Next, while I was at UH, I called a friend / source and asked for any news on the negotiations between the WNBA and the players' union.

Without going into specifics (sworn to secrecy), the two sides are making progress (thanks to concessions on both sides). An agreement could be forthcoming in a few weeks. Clearly, until an agreement is announced, it's possible things could go wrong; however, the fact progress has been made is much better news than what I was told a while ago.

Lastly, my day was capped off with this nugget of good news: I've been approved to cover the 2008 Women's Final Four in Tampa, FL. Though I've been approved the last six or seven years, it's always an honor to be approved. I never take it for granted.
